Thanh Hoa Newspaper reported on 9 October 2026 that by that morning the dengue cluster in Lien Hai residential group, Hai Binh ward, had 5 cases. After the first treatment, surveillance showed mosquito and larval indices were still high.
Main points
- The first case fell ill on 26 September and was admitted to Nghi Son General Hospital on 1 October, triaged, isolated, tested positive for dengue virus and discharged after a week. The hospital informed Nghi Son Health Centre for investigation and zoning.
- Vector surveys found high larval and mosquito indices. Nghi Son Health Centre, Hai Binh Health Station and local authorities mobilised residents to clean up and sprayed insecticide within 200 m of the patient’s home.
- As indices remained high after treatment, the two health units sprayed a second time in the area on 9 October. All cases were in the same residential cluster near the first patient’s home.
- The health station monitors households within 200 m and the whole residential group, asks clinics and pharmacies to report suspected cases, and broadcasts prevention messages on the ward loudspeakers three times a day.
VPMA’s note
The report shows why vector surveillance after treatment matters: if indices do not fall, treat again and remove breeding sites. Members supporting local authorities should measure indices before and after treatment and follow health authority guidance.
