The socio-economic report for the third quarter and first nine months of 2026, released by the National Statistics Office (Ministry of Finance) on the morning of 3 October 2026 and posted on the Government Portal on 5 October 2026, says that since the start of the year more than 94,200 people in Vietnam have had dengue fever, 14 of whom died.
Main points
- Other communicable diseases listed in the same “Disease situation” section: more than 74,200 cases of hand, foot and mouth disease (11 deaths); 5,143 people with fever and rash suspected to be measles; 242 cases of viral encephalitis (1 death); 34 cases of meningococcal meningitis (5 deaths); 54 deaths from rabies.
- The National Statistics Office summary on nso.gov.vn lists the disease, food poisoning and fire situation among the “complicated” issues that need attention, repeating the figure of more than 94,200 dengue cases (14 deaths) in the first nine months of 2026.
- The report gives only national cumulative totals, not figures by province or city. Of the diseases listed, dengue is the one transmitted by Aedes mosquitoes.
- For comparison: the 2026 Communicable Disease Prevention and Control Plan (Decision 631/QD-BYT, already covered on the Association website) states that in 2025 Vietnam recorded 168,140 dengue cases and 33 deaths; the 2026 targets are an incidence below 170 per 100,000 people and a case fatality rate below 0.09%.
VPMA’s note
National cumulative figures, useful for the overall picture. For trends in each locality, see the weekly bulletins of provincial and city CDCs, such as the two articles on Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi in this batch. According to the Ministry of Health’s annual plan, the dengue season in the north may last until November; members providing mosquito control services should work with local health services and follow the health sector’s technical guidance.
