A paper of 20 April 2026 in PLOS Neglected Tropical Diseases reports a molecular survey of Ae. aegypti in Hargeisa, Berbera and Burao (Somaliland) after dengue upsurges in 2022–2024. Voltage-gated sodium-channel mutations S989P, V1016G and F1534C were found; WHO bioassays in Hargeisa and Burao showed resistance to the pyrethroids tested.

- Journal: PLoS Negl Trop Dis 20(4): e0014185. DOI 10.1371/journal.pntd.0014185. Received 13 June 2025; accepted 25 March 2026; published 20 April 2026.
- Adults and larvae were collected; species confirmed by COI; vgsc screened; WHO tests with deltamethrin, permethrin, lambda-cyhalothrin and alpha-cypermethrin on females from Hargeisa and Burao (2024).
- 24-hour mortality examples (Hargeisa): lambda-cyhalothrin 18%, deltamethrin 88%, alpha-cypermethrin 28%, permethrin 50% — all below the WHO susceptible threshold. The S989P/V1016G combination (more often reported in Asia) was present; mutation frequencies were higher in Burao.
- Blood-meal analysis detected human and goat DNA in a subset of samples. The paper is Somaliland data, not a survey in Vietnam.

These are research results from Somaliland. Do not use these resistance figures to describe mosquito populations in Vietnam.
