Cambodia moves closer to malaria elimination: no deaths since 2018

According to Cambodia’s National Centre for Parasitology, Entomology and Malaria Control, the country recorded 52 malaria cases last year, down 84% from 2024, and aims for elimination certification in 2030.

The US House passes reauthorisation of the Kay Hagan Tick Act

WHO: Bhutan reaches a historic point on the path to malaria elimination

A WHO certification mission worked in Bhutan from 23 August to 1 September 2026 after three consecutive years (2022–2025) with no indigenous malaria. Bhutan also launched a 2026–2030 plan against re-establishment.

PAHO warns of rising chikungunya in several countries of the Americas

The Pan American Health Organization issued an epidemiological alert as chikungunya rose from late 2025 and returned to places that had not had local transmission for years. PAHO asks countries to prepare and to remove mosquito breeding sites.

Timor-Leste is certified by WHO as having eliminated malaria

From more than 223,000 cases in 2006, Timor-Leste has had no indigenous malaria since 2021 and is the third country in the WHO South-East Asia Region to be certified.
